WORLD-CLASS VOCAL COACH TRUSTED GLOBALLY

Your voice wants to do
more than it currently can.
Every singer has something they want to express:
The problem isn't lack of emotion:
but the voice hasn't been built yet to express it fully.
So singers compensate. They push. They strain. They imitate.
They chase sounds their instrument was never prepared to handle.
And over time, that turns into
tension, insecurity, anxiety, inconsistency, and growing distrust of their voice.
This issue is not your passion.
This issue is that your voice has never been given permission to grow.
Freedom has always been
BUILT THROUGH PLAY
Over three thousand years ago, King David wrote:
"Play skillfully with a shout of joy."
- Psalm 33:3
Not push harder. Not strain.
Play. Skillfully. With joy.
This single line holds the same truth modern voice science continues to rediscover:
The voice was never meant to be trained through stress, rigour or pressure.
It was meant to be built through skillful play.
Why play is the fastest path to vocal freedom
When singers feel safe to explore:
Play is not the opposite of discipline.
Play is how discipline becomes sustainable.
And progress to become inevitable.
This is why:
Not having a playful voice doesn't just limit your voice, it locks it forever.

I'VE MADE ALL THE MISTAKES
I'VE MADE ALL THE MISTAKES
In my early years of singing, I did what every motivated singer does.
I practiced consistently (and oftentimes obsessively) yet my voice stayed inconsistent and tense.
That frustration led me to study not just vocal mechanics, but also neuroscience and motor learning, so I could build a strong, reliable voice without exhausting or injuring it.
That search led me into deeper, more precise approaches to vocal training.
Where my foundation was built
My understanding of the voice was shaped through formal training under Justin Stoney of New York Vocal Coaching.
His approach to the voice is grounded in practical vocal pedagogy, which became the foundation of how I understand and teach the voice today.
Through his training, I learned to:
This was where confusion started to disappear.
It gave me a clear framework for how the voice actually functions –
not just how it feels.
Where my understanding deepened
My next stage of growth came through working with MT Jay, a science-informed voice specialist whose work focuses on aerodynamics, acoustic pedagogy, and building efficient vocal coordination.
His approach is informed by close collaboration with leading figures in modern voice science, including Ken Bozeman, Wolfgang Saus, Kittie Verdolini, Kerrie Obert, Ian Howell, Nick Perna, and Seth Riggs.
Through this work, I refined my understanding of:
Everything I had learned under Justin began to click at a deeper level.
What once felt theoretical became precise, efficient, and fully usable in real time.
It was a shift toward greater precision, efficiency, and sustainability:
where the voice no longer relies on effort, but on skillful coordination.
The Missing Piece...
The truth is: you can know all the right techniques, understand vocal mechanics, and still feel tense, inconsistent, and unsure of your voice.
That’s because the nervous system doesn’t change just by being informed.
Neuroscience shows that the brain only learns complex physical skills when it feels safe, not judged or pressured.
When a singer feels safe, the breath stabilises, tension releases, and new coordination becomes easy to build.
The voice doesn’t become free through knowledge alone.
It becomes free when it feels safe enough to explore, to be curious, and to PLAY!
Introducing
The Playful Voice Method™
Where Structured Training, Modern Voice Science,
and Skillful Play Converge
Created by vocal coach and voice technique specialist Wira Gunawan, the Playful Voice Method™ is a comprehensive training system designed to help singers build voices that are reliable, expressive, and free.
Rooted in practical vocal pedagogy and modern voice science, this method gives singers a structured way to understand and coordinate their voice without confusion or guesswork. From soft and breathy to powerful and belty, singers learn not just how to produce sound – but how to shape it intentionally.
Developed through years of study, experimentation, and mentorship under Justin Stoney and MT Jay, the Playful Voice Method™ brings together two essential dimensions of vocal training:
• A clear, functional understanding of how the voice works in practice
• A refined, science-informed approach to aerodynamics, acoustics, and efficiency
This combination allows singers to move beyond rigid technique and into responsive, adaptable control – where the voice no longer relies on effort, but on efficient coordination.
But structure and science alone are not enough.
At the core of this method is skillful play - a guided, exploratory approach that allows the nervous system to release fear, the voice to adapt efficiently, and expression to emerge naturally. Through structured play, singers stop forcing outcomes and begin trusting their instrument.
Unlike rigid or dogmatic systems, the Playful Voice Method™ is constantly evolving through new research in vocal pedagogy.
Today, this approach has helped artists, musical theatre performers, singer-songwriters, and developing vocalists worldwide make rapid, sustainable progress - often in as little as 20 minutes of focused practice per day.
This is not just vocal training. This is a modern framework for vocal freedom.
