Wira Gunawan is the Founder of Playful Voice Studios and an internationally-recognized Voice Teacher and Vocal Coach. He is dedicated to helping singers overcome their barriers and become the best singers they can be.

Clients

Wira has worked with a wide range of singers, from beginning singers to professional vocalists, voice artists, and musical theatre performers. He has served as vocal coach for two full musical theatre productions, including The Addams Family and a stage adaptation of The Greatest Showman.

Through his online studio, Wira has taught over 2,000 lessons, working with students of diverse backgrounds, levels, styles, ethnicities, nationalities, and ages. This offers him a unique understanding of how different people and voices learn, allowing him to tailor his teaching with clarity and precision.

Pedagogy & Training

Wira is deeply committed to the study and teaching of vocal pedagogy – the science and art of how singing voices are trained. He completed the 50-Hour Complete Voice Teacher Training at New York Vocal Coaching in 2023, becoming one of the youngest graduates of the program.

His formal training included old school classical Italian methodology, practical vocal pedagogy, and modern voice science. He is actively collaborating with voice scientists, researchers, and leading educators to stay aligned with the latest developments in voice science and pedagogy.

In addition to his studio work, Wira is known for making vocal pedagogy accessible to singers around the world through his educational content on Instagram and TikTok, where he breaks down complex voice science into clear, practical, and engaging lessons. His educational videos have accumulated over 300,000 followers across platforms.

Education

Wira holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, graduating at the top of his class. His scientific background gives him a unique advantage as a vocal coach, equipping him with strong analytical thinking, precision, and a deep respect for evidence-based learning.

This background allows him to approach the voice not only as an art, but as a complex, trainable system – helping singers diagnose issues, understand coordination, and make faster, more reliable progress.

Personal Life

Outside of the studio, Wira enjoys reading, watching films (and probably analyzing them a bit too deeply), and staying active at the gym. He is endlessly curious about how art, science, and human potential intersect, and brings that same curiosity into every lesson he teaches.
